SPCH 6230 - Augmentative/Alternative Communication


2 credit hours

This course introduces students to the range of assistive technologies, and to diagnostic and treatment approaches used by speech-language pathologists to address the communicative needs of adults and children with acquired communication disorders in a variety of settings (e.g. hospital, school, home, work). Artificial intelligence and its implications for habilitation and rehabilitation will be discussed. Guest lecturers by allied professionals (i.e. physical therapist, occupational therapist and/or educators) will review the benefits of an interdisciplinary, team-based approach to assessment and intervention.
