DHSC 8610 - Foundations of Health Care Law and Regulatory Compliance

This foundational course provides comprehensive examination of the legal framework governing healthcare delivery and compliance in the United States. Students engage with constitutional law principles affecting healthcare, federal and state statutory authorities, administrative law and rulemaking processes, and judicial precedents shaping healthcare compliance. The course covers Medicare and Medicaid laws, the Affordable Care Act, EMTALA, corporate practice of medicine doctrines, professional licensure laws, and accreditation requirements. Students develop legal analysis skills to interpret statutes, regulations, and case law while understanding how legal principles translate into organizational compliance obligations. Emphasis is placed on understanding the sources of law, the hierarchy of legal authority, and the interplay between federal and state healthcare regulations.
