MHAD 6300 - Healthcare Information Systems


3 credit hours

Students examine the knowledge and skills healthcare executives need to manage information and information systems in contemporary healthcare organizations. Learners analyze patient care processes and the information generated during these processes and evaluate the evolution and functions of healthcare information systems, including major clinical and administrative applications with emphasis on electronic health record systems. Students review foundational information technology concepts that support these systems and assess senior management challenges in budgeting, governance, and evaluation of health IT services. The course includes a fieldwork assignment that students complete in person or virtually within a healthcare setting.
