OCTH 5520 - Practice Immersion I: Mental Health & Groups 5 credit hours
The purpose of this course is to prepare students to assess and provide occupation-based interventions that address the psychosocial needs of individuals across the lifespan. Students will learn to design and deliver occupational therapy services using appropriate theoretical models and frames of reference applicable to a variety of systems and settings, including behavioral health, psychiatric, community, and education-based environments.The course introduces foundational concepts in mental health practice, including group dynamics, phases of group development, group roles, conflict resolution, problem solving, and the therapeutic use of groups. Students will develop and implement intervention group protocols commonly used in mental health practice, facilitate groups, and reflect on group processes and outcomes. Prerequisite: OCTH 5125
