MSPA 5175 - Clinical Medicine: Healthcare for Special Populations 2 credit hours
Despite the excellent healthcare provided to much of the citizenry of the United States, significant disparities exist in healthcare for vulnerable or at-risk populations. Examples of people considered at risk can include pediatric and elder populations, disenfranchised and marginalized people, and those with disabilities or serious chronic illness. In addition, these populations may also experience cultural, mental health and social factors that contribute to their health disparities and barriers to quality healthcare. This 2-credit course will discuss the challenges that these vulnerable populations face and explore the role of the physician assistant in offering potential and ethical solutions to overcome the barriers they face.
